Jesse Slaughter

I am proud to serve as your Sheriff in Cascade County, Montana, and I am seeking re-election for my third term.

When I first ran for Sheriff in 2018, I made a commitment to this community — a commitment to bring change, improve public safety, and lead with integrity. Since then, I have worked every day to keep those promises.

With over 26 years in law enforcement, I bring experience, leadership, and a deep commitment to protecting our community. My work is grounded in faith, family, and service.

My wife, Christie, serves on the Montana Board of Pardons and Parole, and together we are raising three incredible children. We are also proud foster parents, specializing in caring for babies born addicted to drugs.

I truly care about the people of Cascade County. Every decision we make is rooted in serving you.

Here are some of the accomplishments achieved during my first two terms as Sheriff.

Created and implemented a comprehensive school safety program

Authored the original language for the federal SROs Act

Streamlined staffing, putting more deputies on the street

Led the unification of the GFPD and CCSO SWAT teams

Created a Violent Crimes Prevention Task Force

Secured grant funding for mental health mobile response team

Detectives solved oldest cold case in US history

Added five deputy positions

Added an Internet Crimes Against Children detective

Added Drug Endangered Children detectives

Deputy assigned to DEA Task Force

Deputy assigned to focus on juvenile gangs

Created Resident Deputy Program (Sun River Valley, Cascade, Belt)

Created new K9 Program

Revitalized Reserve Deputy Program

Contracted a platform to aid in notifying law enforcement of a school emergency

Started online crime reporting system

Implemented deputy body camera program

Updated patrol vehicle video systems

Updated deputies’ patrol rifles
Added three detention officers to the annual budget

Removed state prison, improving jail capacity

Made major repairs to the jail

Updated booking area, increasing jail security

Secured funding for Guardian RFID, reducing inmate suicides/overdoses

Implemented a pre-trial services program

Contracted with USMS to overcome jail budget deficit

Providing addiction assistance, Angel Initiative

Moved 24/7 program to downtown Great Falls

Re-engaged veterans and drug treatment courts

Acquired jail body scanner

Acquired new extraction and riot gear

Moved juveniles, with felony charges, to the JDC
Created the only MT civilian Use of Force Review Committee

Started the first Citizens Academy

Introduced highly visible patrol vehicles

Increased social media presence and engagement

Increased community engagement

Performed citizen survey regarding information delivery

Deputies attending rural town council meetings

Increased recruitment and interaction at expos, state fair, gun shows, etc.

Increased transparency by frequently updating the public regarding critical incidents
Maintaining a budget surplus every year

Secured $1.7M in Homeland Security grants

Secured substantial pay raise for deputies

Secured substantial pay raise for detention officers

Negotiated overtime incentives for detention officers

Drastically improved applicant quality and reduced turnover

Transitioned to a full-time civilian coroner

Transitioned to a full-time civilian evidence tech

Secured grant funding for public mental health crisis center

Pioneered the Sheriffs Legacy Foundation, a 501(c)(3)
Secured grant funding to support staff health and wellness

Contracted mental health professionals after traumatic incidents

Implemented guidelines for critical incidents involving staff members

Secured grant funding for peer-to-peer support

Secured funding to improve employee workout facility

Providing staff time to exercise on shift

The community members of Cascade County are my boss and I answer to you. You hired me in 2018 to bring a change to the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. I am proud to say we’ve done that, but there is more to do.
